Privacy policy

Last updated: 7 November 2026

TextPluck does not collect, store or share any of your data. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing is sent to us. Your text leaves your Mac only if you click Search the web.

What happens when you capture text

Internet access

The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox without the network permission, so it cannot connect to the internet. It contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools.

Search the web

When you click Search the web, TextPluck opens the search in your default browser. Your browser then sends the text to the search engine you chose in Settings (Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing or Ecosia), and that search engine’s privacy policy applies. Nothing is sent unless you click the button. TextPluck itself still makes no internet connection.

Translate and Look Up

Translate uses Apple Translation, which runs on your Mac (macOS 15 or later). The first time you use a language, macOS downloads it from Apple; after that, translation works offline. TextPluck does not do this download itself. Look Up opens the Dictionary app built into macOS, which works offline.

History

TextPluck keeps your recent captures as text on your Mac, so you can find them again. Images are never kept. You can change how many captures are kept, delete them, or turn history off in Settings. Deleting the app deletes its history.

Screen Recording permission

macOS asks you to allow Screen Recording before any app can read what is on your screen. TextPluck uses this permission only to capture the box you draw. You can turn it off at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.

Read aloud

The Speak button uses the voices built into macOS. The text is not sent anywhere.
